GAGAKU series are planed by SHIMONAKA MEMORIAL FOUNDATION for the first
contribution to the Encyclopaedia Cinematographica at the start of EC Japan
Archives in 1972. Scientific direction and author of the text was distinguished
ethno-musicologist KOIZUMI Fumio、prof of Tokyo University of Fine Arts.
For this documentation, used five 16mm cameras and chtachrome Commercial
Color Reversal films. Shootings were took place at the GAGAKU Hall in the
Imperial Palace. 6 filmsseries included following repartlies parformed
by Music Dept. of the Imperial Household Agency.

POTTERY IN TOKONAME was planned for the city of Tokoname in 1974 as a 20min.
promotional film of pottery as the most important local products of this
city. In next year additional filming was took place and completed two
Encyclopaedia Cinematographica units: HIMODUKURI 22min. and SHUDEI KYUSU
26min. All filming was done by 16mm Eastman color negatives. EC units have
English and Japanese incert titles.
国立民族学博物館ビデオテ−ク映像ソフト
自社およびEC日本ア−カイブズ作品、エンサイクロペディア・シネマトグラフィカ収録作品の改編による民博ビデオテ−ク版製作。
昭和 53-59年度に50作品完成。昭和 61-63年ビデオディスク化マザーテープ改編作業。
Video soft production for the Videotheque of the National Museum of Ethnology
in Osaka
TokyoCinema and EC Japan Archives completed more than 50 units of the Videotheque
programs from our own production as well as Encyclopaedia units.

For the Dentoh-Bunkazai Kiroku-Hozonkai (Society for Documentation and
Presarvation of the Traditional Cultural Heritages), we documented 5 very
importan traditional local events from the end of 1970-ies to the begining
of 80-ies.
IZAIHO in Kudaka-jima Island, OKINAWA part 1 55min. part 2 48min.
OHGIMATSURI in Nachi Shrine 35min.
AUGUST 15th FEST in Yoron-jima, Amami 45min.
MAYUNGANASHI ritual in Kabira village, Ishigaki-jima Island 38min.
UWASE SHINJI The Medieval Fest and Performing Arts remained in Wakasa District
30min.
NACHI DENGAKU 40min.
Those films are taken in 16mm Color negatives and video copies are available
from TokyoCinema. Unfortunately those films are only with Japanese commentaries.

北海道立北方民族博物館 資料映像収集 平成３年２月
北海道網走市に開館の北海道立北方民族博物館のため、これまで培ってきた世界規模での映像交流のネットワークを活用、アメリカ、カナダ、ソ連、スカンジナビア諸国などから、１００点を超す国際的な視覚人類学映像資料の調査と収集を行なう。同館開館後も収集作業・情報資料室映像の編集整備に協力を続けている。
Video Collection for HOKKAIDO MUSEUM OF NORTHERN PEOPLES
TokyoCinema served for HMNP which opened in Abashiri in 1991, gathered
moving images on northern peoples through out the circum polar aeria -
Siberia and Russian far north, Scandinavia, Greenland, Canada and Alaska.
More than 100 titles are collected at the museum opening and added more
than another 100 titles after the opening. This project was continued more
than 5 years. i

In 1997, to commemorate 25 years anniversary of ECJA, Shimonaka Memorial
Foundation started new project of GAGAKU documentation in video. The first
6 VHS video cassettes and accompaning text on Gagaku instruments and notes
will be published on March 1999. The full volumes will be published in
2000! English version will be published in 2000, too.
